Finally.....Google Desktop in on Linux

Google finally released google desktop to the linux users.

The Desktop Manager being created by the Beryl and Compiz community together. This is new Desktop Manager looks great. So much for Aero.

I love Ubuntu……..2 months and Feisty Fawn hasn’t dissapointed so far

After a friend recommended Ubuntu Edgy Eft as THE linux os to use during winter of 06. I have been using Ubuntu ever since as my home operating system. Since the company I work for develops software for Windows users, I couldn’t switch to Ubuntu at work.

Edgy Eft kept growing on me day by day. I was happy with amount of applications for it and the support it had as well in the open source community.

After learning how to install ubuntu the hard way by mistakenly screwing up my windows boot loader and not able to repair and resolving it by formatting my hard drive. I decided to use 20gbs of external hard drive for Ubuntu and have the grub in the external harddrive and not interfere with my windows bootloader in my laptop’s internal hard drive.

After successfully familiarizing with the Operating System and hours of learning what software are good to install. I finally decided to make it my main OS at home.

The only downside was no Yahoo widgets or google search/gadgets.

In April, after surviving the long wait to get a decent server that is willing to let me upgrade Edgy eft to Feisty Fawn, it was the first time I have used Beryl as my desktop manager after failing to get it to work in Edgy eft.

Great job by the Ubuntu Community in listening to its users and improving the hardware compatibility.

So far, its been 2 months on since I have started using Feisty fawn and so far it hasn’t disappointed. It has alternatives to pretty much most of the applications users of Windows have, plus the bonus of using the web such as google docs, notebook, zoho, yoono etc that will help you in what you need to do.

I love Beryl, it really hangs Aero out to dry. I also like another piece of software called wallpapoz (“http://wallpapoz.akbarhome.com/”) it gives you the KDE feature of having different wallpapers for each workspace which you can’t do in gnome. Its simple to install and run. The developer deserves alot of praise for creating such a smooth and slick software.

Automatix2 (“http://www.getautomatix.com/”)is an excellent app to install. It is an alternative to Synaptic. It is a software that contains many open source software which the user can then download.

I also love the updates that are available for Ubuntu. There almost daily updates which indicates that there are people who care and that for open source can really take off.

Don’t get me wrong, it is not easy to switch from windows to Ubuntu, you will encounter some problems whether its teething problems or major ones, and the structure of Ubuntu or linux in general needs the user to get used to. Its a learning curve and it is deep for non tech people so its worth putting the effort.

You shall not be disappointed.

NBA Draft is tonight

People have been talking about Oden and Durant on and on and on.

Well for me that isn’t my concern. My concern is that the Phoenix Suns (best and most entertaining team in my opinion) don’t throw away Amare Stoudamire(STAT) or Shawn Marion (The Matrix). They are solid players and this team has what its got to be a major contender and a winner of the world series.

For the GM to mess with that by trading STAT to Atlanta for two picks in this draft, that shouldn’t happen. Even though the talent in this draft is excellent and might get two great players for the price of STAT, I hope they stick to STAT whose only 24 years old and in the NBA’s first team. The most agile center in the league.

They should bank in getting a good defensive Small forward to help the team in Defence. They have got the best offensive team in the league, they need another 6th man like Barbosa that can come of the bench and help them defend and give Bell or Marion time to rest.

Another thing that worries me is that the matrix can opt out of his contract. I hope he stays in Phoenix, he is a great double double guy and the leading stealer and rebounder of the team. For him to go to another team for money rather than a ring that is within the grasp of this organization is gonna disappoint alot of Suns fans.

If he is wants to leave the team rather the team wanting him to leave, the best thing is to get Garnett from Minnesota or trade up for him in this draft.

Finally my first blogging experience……its about time!

This sounds silly but finally I decided to do my first blog. I am big fan of blogs but couldn’t be bothered to do my own blogs. Mostly….well all of it actually is thanks to my friends that kept pressuring me to start doing it.
